Funding Options

One of the benefits of having an OT assessment before purchasing a piece of equipment or installing a rail is that usually there are funding options available which can fully cover or subsidise the cost.

The NDIS has now rolled out in the Delatite Shire and most people have active plans.  I am registered in a few areas for both children and adults.  Please give me a call to discuss what you need and we can go from there.  If you’re having difficulty deciding what to put into your plan, or thinking about what you might need in the future, I am able to assist with this also.

Through My Aged Care our local councils still have funding for minor home modifications and DVA is always expanding their range of equipment, home modifications and home support.

School Skills

If your little person is needing to improve their fine motor, self care or social skills then there are some little tips and tricks we can put into place to make this fun and interesting!

Pencil grip is one skill that if we can tweak earlier rather than waiting to see what happens often has better outcomes.

One big tip is to develop the bigger muscles first, play, play play! It’s hard to strengthen tiny finger muscles if the hand, arm and shoulder are also weak. Climbing, swinging, crawling and weight bearing through the arms are awesome!

Home Modifications

Rails, rails and more rails! :)

Although rail installation seems really simple there are variations we consider if someone has back, hip or knee concerns.  There is also a big difference between shower, toilet and access rails.

There are also many other home modifications we can suggest such as low rise steps, ramps, changing door handles and taps.

We can also look at eligibility to access different funding bodies within the community to subsidise the cost of modifications.

Equipment Assessments

An OT assessment before purchasing assistive equipment will ensure that the piece of equipment is exactly what you need and fits correctly.

Most funding bodies will subsidise the cost of equipment if it is prescribed by an OT, but the assessment needs to happen prior to purchase.  Appling through funding bodies can sometimes take a little longer so it’s best to start earlier rather than later.

Through government subsidy schemes we can apply for assistance with a whole range of equipment including wheelchairs, scooters, hoists, pressure care cushions, continence aids and much more.

Falls Risk Assessments

If you have had a fall, a near trip or even just that fluttery feeling when you lose your balance then a falls risk assessment is a really good idea.  During this assessment we problem solve how to eliminate or at least reduce the risk of falls.  This can be achieved through home modifications, different pieces of equipment and/or finding other ways to do things.

Please give me a call if you would like to discuss this further!  Falls prevention is key!

Care Support Agencies

I am happy to work with care support agencies to complete assessments for home modifications and equipment needs for clients ensuring the most cost effective and appropriate solution.  I can also complete training in transfer techniques, use of transfer equipment and any other support needs.

Please contact me to discuss how I can assist your organisation and your clients.
